Warwickshire students look beyond university after results

Thousands of Warwickshire students are considering university, apprenticeships, work, travel and further training after receiving their A-level results on Thursday 13 August.

Warwickshire County Council said initial feedback from schools and colleges points to another successful year. Full results from individual providers are still being collated, however, and countywide performance data will be published by the Department for Education in the autumn.

For students whose grades have changed their plans, schools and colleges are offering on-site advice, while independent careers support is also available.

Countywide results picture is still emerging

Students across Warwickshire completed A-level courses at schools, further education colleges, sixth form colleges and training providers. Results day also recognised achievements in BTECs, NVQs, apprenticeships, T-levels and supported internships.

The council has not yet released a countywide set of figures. Its early assessment of a successful year is therefore based on feedback from education providers rather than a complete local dataset. The fuller local picture is due when the Department for Education publishes detailed county performance data later in the year.

Councillor Wayne Briggs, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, congratulated students and said there were “many fulfilling pathways available” after results day. He said support was available through schools, colleges and careers services for young people whose results were not what they had hoped for.

University remains one route for many students, but the council highlighted apprenticeships, entering work, travel and further training as other possible next steps. Those options may be especially relevant for young people who are reassessing an original plan after receiving their grades.
