Nottinghamshire drivers face a month of major A-road works

Drivers across Nottinghamshire should prepare for resurfacing and machine-laid patching on several heavily used A-roads throughout September 2026. Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed 24 major schemes, alongside preventive treatment at more than 200 sites across the county.

The programme covers parts of the A57, A60, A610, A1133, A6009 and A38. Exact traffic restrictions and working times may vary by scheme, while weather could alter the surface-dressing and micro-asphalt schedules. Residents should check the latest Notts Highways information before setting out.

Major routes included in the September programme

The council’s month-ahead update identifies works on strategic corridors as well as local roads. It does not provide a complete road-by-road timetable for all 24 major schemes, but names the principal locations motorists are most likely to encounter.

Because several schemes involve bypasses, roundabouts and junctions used for journeys between Nottinghamshire communities, motorists may need extra time or an alternative route when restrictions are in place. The council has not specified one countywide closure pattern, so arrangements must be checked for each location.

Local patching will reach towns and villages

Highways teams and the council’s JCB Pothole Pro machines will continue smaller patching and localised repairs alongside the major programme. Scheduled locations include Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Mansfield, Hucknall, Watnall, Stapleford, Gedling, Carlton, Widmerpool, Gotham and Gonalston.

Further work is planned in villages across Newark and Sherwood. These repairs are intended to address identified road defects without waiting for a full resurfacing scheme.

Weather could change treatment dates

Surface dressing and micro asphalt are continuing at more than 200 Nottinghamshire sites. The treatments retexture worn surfaces, limit water entering the road and slow the development of cracks and potholes, extending the usable life of roads without complete reconstruction.

Both processes depend on suitable weather. A road listed for treatment may therefore move in the schedule if conditions or operational requirements change. Drivers should check current information shortly before travelling rather than relying only on the September overview.

Nottinghamshire County Council says more than 150 roads will receive surface dressing or micro-surfacing between the date of its update and autumn. By the end of July, nearly 100 road-surface improvement schemes had already been delivered.

Record programme funds resurfacing and prevention

The September works form part of the council’s £181.25 million Highway Capital Maintenance Programme for 2026/27. Nottinghamshire County Council is delivering the programme with its highways partner, Via East Midlands.

The investment covers essential maintenance, resurfacing and infrastructure improvements intended to keep the network safe and support more reliable journeys. Via East Midlands will also continue year-round preventive work, including drain and gully cleansing, tree inspections and surface repairs.

Councillor Bert Bingham, the council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, thanked residents for their patience and said schedules could change with the weather. The latest roadworks, surface-dressing and micro-asphalt updates will be published through Notts Highways as plans are revised.
