Residents and businesses across Worcestershire can now check whether gigabit-capable broadband is already available at their address or included in future Project Gigabit upgrade plans.

The GOV.UK checker has been available since March 2026. Users enter their address details to see current availability and any planned improvements.

What readers need to know

  • More than 270,000 Worcestershire homes and businesses can access gigabit-capable broadband.
  • Coverage reached nearly 89% of premises by July 2026.
  • Project Gigabit is expected to connect more than 20,000 additional premises across the county.
  • The county is expected to exceed 95% gigabit-capable coverage by 2030.

How to check your address

Visit the broadband availability checker through Worcestershire County Council’s broadband information service and enter the relevant address details. The results should show whether gigabit-capable broadband is currently available and whether the property is included in planned Project Gigabit upgrades.

Availability can vary between nearby properties, so checking the exact address is necessary. The service is intended for both households and businesses across Worcestershire.

Project Gigabit rollout across the county

The upgrades are being delivered through Project Gigabit, a government programme designed to extend faster, more reliable broadband to harder-to-reach communities. In Worcestershire, Building Digital UK has a £41 million contract with Openreach for the work.

Worcestershire County Council said the county has made strong progress, but acknowledged that some residents may not know what services are available at their property or whether an upgrade is planned.

Councillor Adam Kent, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Finance, Corporate Services and Business, said the new checker gives residents and businesses a straightforward way to view planned improvements and follow the rollout.

The council continues to work with Building Digital UK and Openreach as the programme expands. The next useful step for any household or business unsure about its connection is to check the address-specific result, including whether a future upgrade is listed.
