Wellingborough W3 bus route links Kingsway with town: what residents need to know

A new weekday bus route is now running between Wellingborough town centre and the Kingsway area, giving residents another option for local journeys and off-peak shopping trips.

North Northamptonshire Council has joined with CommMiniBus to launch the W3 bus route, which began on Tuesday 26 May. The service runs Monday to Friday, with buses serving Church Street in the town centre, Abbey Road, Kingsway, Princess Way and Berrymoor Road.

During off-peak hours, the route extends to Sainsbury’s, making it easier for shoppers to reach the supermarket without changing buses or relying on a car.

The main stops listed for the service are:

  • Church Street Interchange, Bay C
  • Abbey Road
  • Kingsway
  • Princess Way
  • Berrymoor Road and Berrymoor Court
  • Sainsbury’s during off-peak journeys

The service has been partially funded by North Northamptonshire Council and is operated with CommMiniBus. A Saturday service is planned to be introduced later, although a start date has not yet been confirmed.

What changes for local journeys

For Kingsway residents, the W3 creates a more direct weekday link into Wellingborough town centre for work, appointments, shopping and onward travel from Church Street Interchange.

The Sainsbury’s extension is limited to off-peak hours, so shoppers should check the listed times before travelling. The timetable also shows that not every journey runs through every stop in the same way, especially around the supermarket extension.

The council says a Saturday service will follow in due course. Until that is announced, the confirmed W3 timetable applies from Monday to Friday.
