Residents, businesses and organisations can attend 13 free Greater Cambridge Local Plan Consultation Exhibitions from Tuesday 1 September to Friday 11 September 2026. The events will take place at community venues across Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire, with the first session opening at 2pm at Arbury Community Centre.

No advance registration is required, although visitors may register voluntarily to help Greater Cambridge Shared Planning estimate attendance. Planning officers will be available to explain the Proposed Submission Greater Cambridge Local Plan, answer questions and help people submit comments before the consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 25 September.

What planning officers can help explain

The Local Plan will guide development across Greater Cambridge for the next 20 years, including where homes, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure are located. These exhibitions are intended to make the proposals and the final consultation stage easier to navigate before the Plan is submitted to the Government for independent examination.

Comments at this stage concern whether the Plan is “sound” under national planning rules. The published notice describes that test as considering whether the Plan has been positively prepared, justified by evidence, effective and consistent with national planning policy.

Councillor Henry Batchelor, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s lead cabinet member for planning, said the sessions would allow visitors to question officers and understand how to make representations. Councillor Katie Thornburrow, leader of Cambridge City Council and cabinet member for strategy, planning and external partnerships, highlighted housing needs, economic growth, climate change and infrastructure among the changes addressed by the Plan.

How to take part before 25 September

Visitors can choose any of the listed exhibitions and attend without registering. The sessions have different opening times, so checking the relevant entry before travelling will help avoid arriving outside the advertised hours. The council’s notice does not provide transport or accessibility details for the venues.
