West Northamptonshire residents, families, care users and staff could be asked for their views on the future of several council-run adult social care services if Cabinet agrees to a public consultation on Tuesday 9 June 2026.
The proposed 12-week consultation would cover long-term care homes, supported living, home care and day services run by West Northamptonshire Council. If approved, it is expected to begin later in June, with details on how people can respond published afterwards.
Services named in the review
The report going to Cabinet names a group of adult social care services that could be included in the consultation. They are:
- Obelisk House long-term care home
- Southfields long-term care home
- Eleanor Lodge supported living service
- West Northamptonshire Council’s home care service
- Gladstone Road day services
- Olympus House
- Towcester Forum day services
- Longlands in Daventry
- The Cottages
The council says the consultation would not be a final decision on those services. Its purpose would be to collect views from people who use them, relatives, carers, staff and residents before Cabinet considers feedback at a later meeting.
Why adult social care services are being reviewed
West Northamptonshire Council says demand for adult social care is changing and growing, with some people needing more complex support than in the past. The council also says care is increasingly expected to be personalised and community-based, rather than shaped only around older service models or buildings.
That means the review will look at both the support people receive and the places where that support is delivered. Buildings, facilities and day-service settings may be considered alongside the way care is organised.
For families and service users, the central issue is whether current services still provide safe, high-quality care in settings that meet modern standards. For staff, the consultation could give a route to explain what works well, what creates pressure, and what would help services operate more effectively.

Readers following wider adult care inspection and service issues may also find relevant context in this report on adult social care services rated good, which covers how support quality and independence are assessed in another local authority area.
What residents may be asked to comment on
If Cabinet gives approval, the consultation is expected to ask people what matters most to them about the services under review. The council has said it wants to hear what works well, as well as views on how services could be improved or developed.
The process could also explore whether current buildings are fit for purpose. That may include how facilities support daily care, accessibility, safety, activities, independence and links with local communities.
The council has not yet published the consultation documents, response routes or meeting dates beyond the planned Cabinet discussion. Those details are expected only if Cabinet agrees to proceed.
Key dates for families, carers and staff
| Stage | Current position |
|---|---|
| Cabinet discussion | Tuesday 9 June 2026 |
| Consultation length | Proposed 12 weeks |
| Likely start | Later in June 2026, if approved |
| Who could respond | Residents, service users, families, carers and staff |
| Later decision point | Feedback would return to Cabinet at a future date |
Anyone connected to Obelisk House, Southfields, Eleanor Lodge, Gladstone Road day services, Olympus House, Towcester Forum, Longlands or The Cottages should wait for the council’s published consultation details before submitting views.
What happens after Cabinet considers the proposal
If Cabinet approves the report, West Northamptonshire Council will publish further information on how people can take part. The consultation would then run for 12 weeks, giving affected people time to respond rather than limiting feedback to one meeting or one written submission.
After the consultation closes, the council says responses would be reviewed and reported back to Cabinet. Any future proposals for the services would be considered after that feedback has been assessed.
