Telford park visitors gain renewed national assurance

Telford Town Park has retained its Country Park Accreditation, giving visitors independent assurance that the free-to-enter green space continues to meet national standards for access, facilities, wildlife care and outdoor recreation.

The renewal, awarded by Natural England through the Country Park Accreditation Scheme, applies for three years. The certificate is on display at the Telford Town Park Visitor Centre.

National standards for access, facilities and nature

Country Park Accreditation is awarded to parks that meet criteria covering accessibility, visitor facilities, environmental management, community involvement and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

For visitors, the standard means the park must remain free to enter, accessible to local communities and managed to provide a high-quality countryside experience. Accredited parks are independently monitored by Natural England to help ensure those standards continue to be met.

A 150-hectare park in the heart of Telford

Spanning more than 150 hectares, Telford Town Park combines play areas, events and family attractions with woodlands, open green spaces, lakes and wildlife habitats. Telford and Wrekin Council says the accreditation renewal reflects year-round work by its parks team and volunteers to balance the park’s role as a major visitor destination with protecting and improving its natural environment.

Councillor Carolyn Healy, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning and Sustainability, said the award recognised both the park’s recreational appeal and its value as a place where nature can thrive close to home.

Residents and visitors can view the accreditation certificate at the Visitor Centre; the renewal is valid for the next three-year accreditation period.
