Thousands of households in north Redbridge still affected by water-supply disruption are now set to receive bottled water at their doors, after the council began a wider delivery operation.

Redbridge Council said 2,700 households remain affected. It coordinated a large bottled-water delivery overnight and has started distributing supplies door-to-door, supported by council staff and employees from Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure.

Door-to-door deliveries for affected households

The expanded operation follows several days in which the council focused on welfare checks and targeted deliveries for vulnerable residents known to Adult Social Care.

Council staff and volunteers had offered support to Thames Water’s bottled-water operation from Monday. After Thames Water accepted that assistance, the council said it could move beyond targeted support and begin wider household deliveries across the affected areas.

The new deliveries are intended to provide direct help to households still without water. They sit alongside, rather than replace, the existing bottled-water collection points run by Thames Water.

Cllr Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council, said the disruption had caused “significant and unacceptable inconvenience and distress”, with hot weather making the loss of supply harder for residents.

He said the council had heard too many reports of households not receiving bottled water as promised and that its immediate priority was ensuring people without water received support.

Bottled-water collection points

Residents can continue to collect bottled water from Thames Water distribution sites at Fairlop Waters and Beal High School. Those who can access the sites may still use them while the council’s door-to-door operation is under way.

The council has asked residents to check on nearby neighbours where possible, particularly people who may be vulnerable or need help accessing supplies. People who need support should contact the council; emergencies should be reported through 999.

Shower access at four Redbridge venues

Affected residents can use shower facilities without booking at four locations. Visitors should attend during the listed opening times and ask staff to use the showers.

Ashton Playing Fields: Thursday 13 August, 7am–9.30pm; Friday 14 August, 7am–7.30pm; Saturday 15 August, 9am–4.30pm.
Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre: Thursday to Saturday, 9am–9pm.
Mayfield Leisure Centre: Thursday and Friday, 7am–9.30pm; Saturday, 8am–5.30pm.
Woodford Green Library & Gym: Thursday and Friday, 6am–10pm; Saturday, 8am–6pm.

The council said Adult Social Care teams have continued supporting vulnerable residents throughout the disruption, while council and Vision staff have been reassigned at short notice to support household deliveries. Residents able to collect supplies can continue using the Fairlop Waters and Beal High School distribution sites.
