Redbridge residents have been given a fresh council update covering affordable housing, new green spaces, SEND education and children’s activities planned for the borough.

The update, published on Friday 5 June 2026, says Redbridge Council is moving manifesto pledges into council plans. The main areas for residents to watch are housing supply, neighbourhood parks, services for children with SEND, and summer activity booking for families.

Affordable homes and pocket parks in the pipeline

Redbridge Council says it is planning to bring 1,000 new affordable homes to the borough. The update does not set out sites, delivery dates or eligibility details, so housing applicants and residents near potential development areas will need to wait for fuller council papers or consultations before the practical impact is clear.

The council also says it wants to expand green spaces, including four new pocket parks. Pocket parks are usually small public green spaces serving nearby streets, so the locations will matter for residents looking for safer play space, seating, shade or small community areas close to home.

New SEND school planned for Ilford

One of the most concrete service updates is a new school for children with SEND in Ilford. The council describes it as a state-of-the-art facility intended to help more local children receive education and support closer to home.

For families, the key issue will be how places are allocated, which needs the school will support, when it opens, and how it fits with existing education, health and care plan arrangements. Those details were not included in the leader’s update.

Children’s activities start to come into view

The council and its partners have arranged more than 50 events during the week after Friday 5 June 2026 to mark UNICEF’s International Day of Play.

Megamix, Redbridge’s summer and Easter holiday activity programme, is also due to open for booking very soon. The programme is open to Redbridge children aged five and over, with activities including sports, dance, drama, music skills and digital workshops.

Some sessions will need advance booking. The council says all sessions are held in local facilities and venues in and around the borough, with adapted activities for children who would benefit from additional support, including cycling, water sports and arts and crafts.

What residents should check next

Families interested in Megamix should watch for booking details, age rules, venue information and whether individual sessions need reservations.

Housing applicants should look for later announcements on the 1,000 affordable homes pledge, including tenure, eligibility, locations and delivery timetables.

Residents following the four pocket parks should check for site proposals, consultation notices and maintenance plans once the council publishes more detail.
