Nature, crafts and hands-on activities across Central Park

Led by Climate Connections, a Plymouth City Council project, the event brings together local organisations and community groups for a day built around nature, creativity, games and practical environmental action.

The trail begins with a lively mix of free activities. Westcountry Rivers Trust will run an inflatable obstacle course designed as an interactive way to explore how rivers work. National Trust and Green Communities will offer nature crafts, wildlife identification and guided walks.

Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and Ocean Conservation Trust will bring marine games and ocean artefacts, while RSPB, Devon Wildlife Trust and Dartmoor Zoo will focus on local wildlife and conservation.

Creative activities will also feature along the route. Climate Action Plymouth will run Haikus for Hope, while Plymouth Scrapstore and Sewcial Guild’s Sew on the Road will offer reuse and making activities.

Bike checks, energy advice and the Local Climate Legend Living Room

The Big Green Trail is also set up as a practical day out rather than just a walk through stalls. Visitors can bring bikes for a free service and safety check with Dr Bike, and local transport organisations will run cycling challenges.

Plymouth Energy Community and Eljay Energy will use interactive games to share renewable energy and home advice. Families will also be able to use a specially designed Big Green Trail activity pack, collecting stamps at activity stops across Central Park and turning the route into a mini adventure.

The event will also recognise Plymouth’s Local Climate Legends, including residents, community groups and organisations taking environmental action in the city. Visitors can step into the Local Climate Legend Living Room to watch short films and hear local stories.

Free travel options for getting to the park

Plymouth Citybus will run a free hop-on, hop-off trail bus on the day, with pick-up points at Royal Parade, George Park and Ride and Milehouse Park and Ride.

For visitors travelling by bike, Beryl will offer one free ride per person. The offer covers 20 minutes of riding plus a free unlock, with no code required.

Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “The Big Green Trail is a fantastic way for people of all ages to get outdoors and learn more about the small changes we can all make to protect our environment. It’s about bringing communities together while inspiring positive action for Plymouth’s greener future.”
