Free Surrey Youth Arts Festival brings workshops to Staines
The Surrey Youth Arts and Culture Festival returns on Saturday 26 September at Staines Library Hub, running from 11am to 3pm. The fourth annual event is free and aimed at young people from across Surrey, with families also encouraged to attend.
Some workshops require advance booking to secure a place. Most activities can be joined by arriving at their advertised start time, according to Surrey County Council.
Music, gaming and filmmaking under one roof
The programme spans both traditional and digital creative work. Surrey Arts will lead music production workshops, while Chaos Created will run video game design sessions. A filmmaking workshop will be delivered by the National Film and Television School.
Young visitors will also be able to try DJing, poetry and musical instruments. The range gives attendees several ways to test an unfamiliar creative activity without committing to a longer course.
Live performances will include Surrey Arts’ Ukrainian Guitar Group, SG Troop from Stopgap Dance Company and Surrey singer-songwriter Fin. Shortlisted entries from the Escalate Arts Film Festival 2026 will also be screened during the event.
Creative activities meet career conversations
The festival brings arts organisations, educators and creative professionals together in one venue. Alongside taking part in workshops, young people can meet people working in the sector and learn about routes into creative careers.
Councillor Mark Nuti, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, said the programme was designed to help young people explore interests, develop skills and build confidence across music, filmmaking, dance, poetry and digital creativity.
The event will also showcase Escalate Arts, the council’s Arts Council England-funded programme for young people. Delivered with Spelthorne Borough Council, Artswork and Ashford Youth Club, it supports creative projects, workshops and youth-led opportunities across Surrey.
