Murder investigation launched after Houston woman’s death
Police Scotland is treating the death of 35-year-old Stacy Mair as murder after the bodies of a woman and a man were found near Corsliehill Road in Houston.
Emergency services were called at around 7.50am on Monday, 27 July 2026, after a report of concern for a person in the area. Officers and other emergency responders attended and found the two bodies nearby.
Post-mortem leads to murder investigation
A post-mortem examination carried out on Tuesday, 28 July, resulted in detectives treating Ms Mair’s death as murder. Police Scotland has not released further details about how she died or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies.
The death of the 43-year-old man remains unexplained. A separate post-mortem examination is due to take place, and its results are expected to help detectives establish the circumstances of his death.
Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, together with officers from the local policing division, are carrying out extensive enquiries. The investigation is intended to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
Police say there is no wider public risk
Police Scotland said there was currently nothing to suggest that anyone else was involved or that there was a risk to the public. That assessment is the force’s current position while enquiries continue.
Chief Inspector Iain Farmer said the incident was deeply upsetting for the families involved and that its impact was being felt across the Houston community. He also thanked local residents for their support while officers carry out their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young said the families were “understandably devastated” and were receiving support from specialist officers.
Information sought as enquiries continue
Police have not provided further information about the relationship between the two people or the events leading to their deaths. The outstanding post-mortem examination is the next confirmed step in establishing the circumstances of the man’s death.
Anyone with information or concerns can contact Police Scotland on 101. The force said its investigation remains ongoing.
