Milton Keynes free summer food and activity dates

Milton Keynes families who qualify for benefit-related free school meals will be able to book free summer activity sessions with meals through the Holiday Fun and Food programme.

The programme runs from 27 July to 20 August at 50 locations across Milton Keynes. Sessions are free for eligible children and young people, with each one including food and at least four hours of activities. Session times have not been specified in the council announcement.

Eligible families are due to receive an e-voucher by email on Sunday 28 June, which can be used to book up to 16 sessions per child through the online booking system named by Milton Keynes City Council.

Milton Keynes City Council says the summer programme will provide 23,000 activity sessions, with events spread across 50 local sites. The offer is aimed at families who may face extra pressure during the longer school holiday, when children are away from school routines and term-time meal support.

The programme includes hundreds of activities for different ages. The council lists music, science, rock climbing and outdoor adventures among the options, alongside sport, creative and cultural sessions.

Each booked session includes free food, which makes the programme both a childcare and holiday activity offer for eligible families. The council says every session will include at least four hours of activities.

Families looking at similar holiday support in other cities may also find useful context in our coverage of Coventry HAF summer places and Leicester HAF free activity bookings.

SEND places are part of the summer offer

The Holiday Fun and Food programme will welcome children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Milton Keynes City Council says nearly 2,400 tickets are being set aside for SEND-specific activities, more than double the number in last year’s programme.

That matters for families planning the summer because SEND places can be harder to secure when demand is high. The council has not published individual session times in the announcement, so families will need to check the booking system once their voucher arrives.

Councillor Peter Cannon, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said the programme would offer activities ranging from sports and outdoor adventures to creative and cultural experiences. He said the sessions were intended to give young people chances to try something new while also providing healthy meals during the holidays.

How eligible families can book

Families do not need to act before receiving the council e-voucher. Milton Keynes City Council says eligible families will be emailed their voucher on Sunday 28 June.

That voucher will allow bookings for up to 16 sessions per child via the council’s online booking route at eequ.org/hafmiltonkeynes. The council says answers to frequently asked questions are available through its HAF information page, and questions not answered online can be sent to HAF@milton-keynes.gov.uk.

This year’s programme has been put together with 40 local clubs, charities, schools and organisations, alongside the council’s Family Centres and Music Hub.
