Leicester’s £7 music-history walks run from 3 to 9 August
Leicester’s demolished music venues and the performers who once filled its clubs and halls are the focus of a week of guided walks from 3 to 9 August 2026. Author and guide Shaun Knapp will lead Hidden Histories: High Flying Around, exploring stories from the city’s 1960s music scene.
Each walk starts at 14:00 and costs £7. The event listing names Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, 53 New Walk, Leicester, LE1 7EA, as the venue, but this is not the tour’s meeting point. Tickets are required, and purchasers will receive the actual starting location in a Booking Details PDF sent by email.
The walks are aimed particularly at people interested in Leicester’s music history, including the smaller venues that hosted some of the period’s biggest names.
Dates, times and the listed venue
Seven walks are scheduled across the week. The weekday tours last 90 minutes, while the Saturday and Sunday walks are scheduled for two hours.

What the guided walk covers
Knapp’s tour focuses on the buildings, groups, performers and audiences connected with Leicester’s 1960s music scene. Some of the venues covered during the walk have since been demolished, so the commentary is intended to reconstruct what stood at those locations and what happened inside the halls and clubs.
The programme also examines how major music names appeared in some of Leicester’s smallest venues. The source does not publish a stop-by-stop itinerary or identify the individual performers and venues that will feature, leaving those stories to the guided tour itself.
Knapp is the author of High Flying Around volumes I and II and Mods Two City Connection. He also co-curated the Mods: Shaping a Generation and Punk: Rage and Revolution exhibitions held at Leicester Museum. His previous work for the museum service included helping to establish Leicester’s guided walks programme.
Booking and meeting-point information
Visitors need to purchase a ticket before attending. After booking, the meeting point will be supplied in a Booking Details PDF sent by email. This location is separate from Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, despite the museum address appearing prominently in the listing.
No accessibility or transport information is included in the supplied event details. The listing also notes that event information can change, so ticket holders should check their booking documents and the Visit Leicester event page before setting out.
