Kettering venues keep historic names before reopening: what residents need to know

By demoduck.co.uk

Kettering’s central cultural site will keep the historic names of its main venues as North Northamptonshire Council moves the library back into its repaired home and prepares for a fuller public opening later in 2026.

The council has confirmed that the site currently referred to as Cornerstone will no longer be treated as a single umbrella brand. Instead, each part of the site will be presented under its own established name, with a shared visual approach intended to help visitors understand how the buildings and gardens connect.

Historic venue names retained

The four names to be used are Alfred East Gallery, Kettering Library, Manor House Museum and Manor House Gardens.

Council officers said the identity has been designed to protect the venues’ separate histories while giving the site a more coherent visual link for visitors. Existing signage around the site is expected to be reused where possible to limit extra cost.

Two identity options were designed in-house after earlier feedback, reducing the need for external branding work. Stakeholders then reviewed the options before the final version was amended and approved internally.

Library return set for July

Kettering Library is due to fully reopen in its former home on Monday 6 July 2026, after work on the replacement library and art gallery roof nears completion.

To allow the move, the library will close to the public on Friday 3 July and Saturday 4 July. The council said there may still be a small amount of disruption after the move while final works are completed and the roof contractor leaves the site.

The roof project is coming to an end under budget, according to the council.

Gallery exhibition before formal opening

Work will also continue toward reopening Alfred East Gallery. Before the formal opening, the gallery team is expected to host an exhibition from Northamptonshire & Rutland Open Studios in the Garden Room on site.

A full opening for the whole site is planned to coincide with Northamptonshire Day at the end of October, with further details to be published by North Northamptonshire Council in due course.
