Hull’s Badger Sett Challenge: Free Entry and £1,000 Prizes
Young people across Hull, the East Riding and Scarborough have until Tuesday 22 September to enter The Badger Sett Enterprise Challenge, a free competition offering cash prizes and mentoring for promising ideas.
The contest is open to entrants from primary-school age through to 29. There is no announced venue or opening event date: the main confirmed date for applicants is the entry deadline. Ideas can cover a new business, co-operative, community venture, or an enterprising school or college project.

Three age groups can compete for funding
The maximum award available depends on the entrant’s age category:

Badger said the aim was to help young people develop their ideas through financial support and mentoring. It also means an applicant should identify which type of project they are proposing when requesting the official entry instructions. Entries will be considered alongside ideas submitted by other young people from Hull, the East Riding and Scarborough.
What happens after the first stage
Winning an age section may not be the final stage of the challenge. The winner from each category is expected to compete against the other section winners during Global Entrepreneurship Week, which runs from 16 to 20 November, in an attempt to double their original winnings.
Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for economic renewal and housing, said the council was supporting the initiative to encourage young entrepreneurship and, in turn, Hull’s economy.
