Grantham drivers face lane restrictions as bridge advances

The next staged bridge movement on the Grantham Southern Relief Road is planned for August, while lane restrictions around the B1174 Roundabout remain in place. Lincolnshire County Council has not listed any additional upcoming traffic closures.

July work brought the bridge setup to Pier 4

Crews working on the western side moved a 60.5-metre support to Pier 4 during July. They also installed structural steelwork behind the bridge deck and began fitting the deck’s permanent formwork and reinforcement.

In plain English, the formwork provides the shape and support needed while the reinforced deck is constructed. The permanent sections remain within the finished structure, while cantilever formwork supports the parts projecting beyond the main deck.

Installation of the cantilever formwork and launch tail also started on the western side. Temporary works began at Pier 4 on the eastern side, preparing that section for the next construction activity.

B1174 Roundabout restrictions remain unchanged

Lane restrictions continue around the B1174 Roundabout. They are needed while the project team constructs the haul route and maintains access to the work site.

The council’s August update does not give an end date for these restrictions. It also records no forthcoming closures or other new traffic arrangements, so the existing lane layout is the only confirmed disruption for drivers.

August programme leads towards Pier 3

On the western side, crews intend to complete both the permanent and cantilever formwork and continue fixing reinforcement. Ancillary supports are due to be installed at Pier 4 on the eastern side.

The next listed milestone is Shunt 3, a controlled movement that will take the launch nose—the leading section of the bridge-launching setup—onto Pier 3.
