Free Pride in Neighbourhood event in Braintree on 26 October: what residents need to know

Residents seeking advice on waste collections, housing or local environmental concerns can attend the free Pride in Neighbourhood event in Braintree and the surrounding area on 26 October 2026. The community outreach event is open to the public and brings Braintree District Council together with partners and local community groups.

The day combines practical advice with work to identify neighbourhood issues that can be tackled quickly. For residents, that means the programme covers both concerns about their surroundings and access to support services, including domestic abuse support.

The date and broad location were confirmed in Braintree District Council News on 1 October. The next event follows a decision to extend the monthly outreach programme through the autumn and winter, with Pride in Neighbourhood days continuing until March 2027.

Advice on waste, housing and support services

The events are aimed at local residents and involve council teams and partners going into different areas of the district. They work with communities to identify problems, offer guidance and support vulnerable residents.

Advice across the programme includes waste recycling and collection services, littering and other environmental concerns. Housing advice and domestic abuse support services are also among the subjects covered, giving the outreach days a wider purpose than neighbourhood cleaning alone.

The council says the monthly events have received excellent community feedback since launching in April 2026. It also reports strong engagement from partners such as the NHS and Essex Police. Its announcement does not identify the individual organisations attending the October event.

For someone deciding whether to attend, the programme’s mix of services is the clearest guide: it is relevant to residents with questions about council collections, concerns about local tidiness, or a need for housing and support information.

Extra funding supports neighbourhood improvements

The October event sits alongside a broader increase in Pride in Place work. The council announced a further £100,000 at Full Council on 30 September, increasing the resources available for 12 months from October 2026.

That follows an initial £100,000 investment in the 2026/27 budget. Led by the Operations team, the dedicated resource carries out minor maintenance and place improvements that complement existing Street Scene services.

Planned work includes cutting back overgrown vegetation, removing weeds from highway kerb lines and cleaning street signs. The programme also covers minor footpath and street furniture repairs, painting approved public realm assets and clearing accident debris.

During winter, it can support maintenance activities, including localised gritting where appropriate. Community groups can also receive support with tidiness, planting, litter-picking and cleaning activities.

These are planned activities across the district, rather than a confirmed schedule for the Braintree event. The outreach days provide a way for residents and community groups to help identify issues that can be addressed quickly.

Councillor Peter Schwier, Cabinet Member for Operations and Pride in Place, said the increased investment would allow more minor maintenance and improvement work valued by communities.

Planning for the 26 October event

The next Pride in Neighbourhood event is free and open to local residents on 26 October 2026, in Braintree and the surrounding area. The supplied details do not specify a street address, start time, booking arrangements, transport information or accessibility provision.

Residents planning to attend therefore have a confirmed date and broad area, but will need the precise location and timing to plan their visit.
