Free Limavady banner contest closes 7 September

A free competition is giving Limavady artists, photographers and residents of all ages the chance to put their work on banners across the town centre. Entries must be delivered by Monday 7 September 2026 to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA.

The council’s Town & Village Management Team is running the Limavady Town Centre banner competition with Limavady Town Centre Forum and Fibrus Broadband. There is no entry fee, and professional experience is not required.

The chosen designs will be developed into a new collection of town-centre banners. Each winner will also receive a £50 Causeway Coast and Glens Gift Card and, wherever practicable, recognition as the artwork’s creator on the printed banner.

The town seen through local eyes

The competition theme is “Limavady is Home — The Best Place to Work, Shop, Eat & Enjoy Local.” Entrants are being asked to show what gives the town its character from their own perspective.

That could mean a view across the Roe Valley, the River Roe or Binevenagh Mountain. Designs may instead focus on independent shops, cafés and restaurants, familiar faces, local landmarks, heritage, culture, music, sport or community life.

The theme follows Limavady’s recognition as Northern Ireland’s Best Location to Work from Home in the inaugural Fibrus Broadband Remote Working Index. The banner project broadens that picture by inviting residents to portray the places, businesses, landscapes and memories that shape everyday life in the town.

Entries may take the form of a drawing, painting, photograph, sketch or another creative visual concept. A judging panel will select the successful submissions after the competition closes.

Portrait artwork is essential for the banner format

Every submission must be the entrant’s own original work and should be visually strong enough to translate into a street banner. Because the finished designs will hang from posts, artwork must use portrait, or vertical, orientation.

The recommended proportions are approximately 2:1, with the image twice as high as it is wide. The minimum accepted size is A4 portrait. Each piece also needs a title and a short explanation of the idea or local inspiration behind it.

Winning entrants may be asked for a high-resolution digital version. If one is unavailable, they may allow the council to scan or photograph the original professionally for printing. The notice says original work provided for this process will be handled carefully and returned wherever practicable.

What must go inside the sealed envelope

Artwork must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Limavady Banner Competition.” Alongside the design, entrants need to provide their name, address, telephone number, email address where applicable, the title of the artwork and a short description of its inspiration.

Anyone under 18 must also include the name and contact details of a parent or guardian. Entries are to remain confidential until judging has finished and the successful artists have been notified.

Entrants retain ownership and copyright in their original work. By entering, however, they grant Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, adapt and display the artwork for the banners and for promotion of the competition and initiative.

Delivering an entry before the deadline

Completed entries must reach Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council at 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA, by Monday 7 September 2026. Entry is free and no separate booking process is described.

This is a submission competition rather than a scheduled public gathering, and the notice does not provide transport or accessibility instructions. Questions about artwork or entry requirements can be sent to Geraldine Wills at geraldine.wills@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk.
