Drawing Inspiration brings Manet to Glasgow for free: what residents need to know
Drawing Inspiration will bring 13 drawings by internationally renowned artists to The Burrell Collection in Glasgow from Tuesday 1 September to Thursday 26 November 2026. Admission is free, but visitors must book a viewing slot.
The exhibition is open to all ages and includes work by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Édouard Manet and Jean-François Millet. Glasgow Life describes the show as an invitation to explore drawing as a way of seeing, making and reflecting on the world around us.
The Burrell Collection is inside Pollok Country Park at 2060 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, G43 1AT. Visitors should check the museum’s opening times when planning their chosen date because no separate daily exhibition time has been published.
Thirteen drawings offer a focused encounter
Rather than attempting to survey the entire history of drawing, Drawing Inspiration concentrates on 13 works. That scale gives visitors a defined selection through which to consider how different artists observed and interpreted their surroundings.
Ingres, Manet and Millet are the three named artists in Glasgow Life’s exhibition information. Their inclusion gives the display a clear art-historical draw while its all-ages admission makes it suitable for families, students and visitors who simply want a closer look at drawing as an artistic process.
The viewing-slot system is an important part of planning the visit. Glasgow Life says free tickets are available to book from 10am on Friday 10 July 2026, with reservations made through its website. Telephone enquiries can be directed to the box office on 0141 353 8000.
Reaching The Burrell Collection without a car
Several public transport routes connect central Glasgow with Pollok Country Park. Bus services 57 and 57A stop on Pollokshaws Road opposite the park entrance, while route 3 serves Shawbridge Street and routes 34 and 34A serve Dumbreck Road. Glasgow Life estimates the direct bus journey from the city centre at about 20 minutes.
Trains from Glasgow Central reach Pollokshaws West in approximately 10 minutes. The station is less than a five-minute walk from the park entrance at 2060 Pollokshaws Road. Shawlands station is another option, around a 10-minute walk from that entrance.
A free electric shuttle bus operates within the park seven days a week, running in a 20-to-30-minute loop between the Pollokshaws Road entrance, The Burrell Collection and Pollok House. Its published operating period is 10am to 6.15pm. The shuttle has space for one wheelchair at a time, with assistance dogs given priority.
Cyclists can approach Pollok Country Park using National Cycle Network routes 7 and 75. Covered cycle racks are positioned in front of the museum.
Parking, step-free access and visitor facilities
Drivers enter Pollok Country Park for The Burrell Collection from Pollokshaws Road, near junction 2 of the M77. Cars can no longer travel through the middle of the park, so visitors should follow signs to The Burrell Collection Car Park rather than relying on a route across the grounds.
Parking charges apply daily from 10am to 6pm: £5 for up to four hours or £10 for the full day. Spaces are not guaranteed. Blue Badge holders can park free when displaying a valid permit, and 19 marked accessible bays are located in front of the museum.
The Burrell Collection has wheelchair access, an accessible lift, two Changing Places toilets and nine additional accessible toilets. A quiet room provides space for baby feeding, while a cloakroom is available on request at reception.
The on-site café opens from 10am to 4.30pm on Monday to Thursday and Saturday, and from 11am to 4.30pm on Friday and Sunday. Last orders are at 3.15pm, after which sandwiches and cakes remain available. Visitors intending to see Drawing Inspiration should book their free viewing slot and confirm the venue’s opening hours before travelling.
