September sessions in Ludlow, Telford and online
| Date | Details |
|---|---|
| Wednesday 9 September | 11am to 12.30pm at Ludlow Methodist Hall, 52 Broad Street, Ludlow SY8 1NH |

The Shropshire Lieutenancy says in-person attendance at Ludlow or Telford is recommended because it gives members of the Shropshire KAVS panel the chance to look in more detail at an individual group’s eligibility. The evening Zoom session has also been added for people who cannot attend during the day or travel to one of the in-person venues.
What the award recognises
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service celebrates the work of volunteer groups across the UK. The source notice describes it as the equivalent of an MBE and the highest award given to local voluntary groups in the country.
For Shropshire groups, the briefing sessions are designed to explain both the award itself and the nomination process. The Lord-Lieutenant has said she wants to support more organisations across Shropshire to win the award after seeing a number of local voluntary groups receive it.
The recognition can raise a group’s profile, acknowledge the work carried out by volunteers and, according to the notice, can also help groups achieve funding.
Eligibility details for local groups
The core eligibility point set out in the notice is simple: any volunteer-led organisation with three or more volunteers can be nominated. The group does not have to be a registered charity.
That makes the briefings relevant to small community teams as well as more formal voluntary organisations, provided the group is led by volunteers and meets the nomination requirements. The sessions are intended to help potential nominators understand whether a group may be suitable before starting the process.
Demoduck has also covered other community recognition schemes, including local hero nominations in Harrow, for readers following how volunteer work is being recognised across local areas.
How to book a place
Anyone seeking further information or wishing to book a place at one of the Shropshire sessions should email Shelley Davies at lieutenancy@shropshire.gov.uk.
