Free Employment Support Fairs in Ellesmere Port and Northwich

Residents in Cheshire West who are currently seeking employment or looking to transition into new career paths can access free, professional guidance this June. Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Skills and Employment Service is hosting two dedicated, drop-in employability fairs designed to provide practical, hands-on support for job seekers aged 16 and over.

These sessions are timed to coincide with National Employability Day, a nationwide initiative that highlights the importance of high-quality skills provision and the impact of local employment support services. Whether you are a teenager searching for your first role, an individual managing a long-term health condition, or someone looking to change industries, these events offer a direct route to professional advice without the need for advance registration.

Event Schedule and Locations

The support sessions will take place over two consecutive mornings. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at their convenience within the event hours.

Date Location Time
Tuesday 23 June Argos Room, Port Arcades, Ellesmere Port 10:00 – 12:00
Wednesday 24 June Northwich Outreach Hub, Weaver Way 10:00 – 12:00

Expert Support Services Available

Staff from the council’s Skills and Employment team will be on-site to assist with various stages of the job search process. The fairs are structured to provide targeted help in the following areas:

  • CV Construction: Professional guidance on refining your CV to better highlight your specific skills and work experience.
  • Interview Preparation: Practice sessions designed to build confidence and help you refine your responses for potential employers.
  • Job Search Strategy: Practical advice on navigating current local vacancies and effective networking techniques.
  • Confidence Building: Tips on making strong first impressions in professional settings and overcoming common barriers to entering the workforce.

Year-Round Employment Assistance

Beyond these specific fairs, the council provides ongoing support for residents through four dedicated Skills and Employment Hubs located in Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich, and Winsford. These hubs offer a spectrum of services, ranging from basic IT training to specialized construction skills development. At any given time, the service works with over 1,000 residents to improve their job prospects.

For those requiring more intensive support, the ‘Connect To Work’ project offers personalized one-to-one mentoring. This initiative is specifically designed to help individuals with disabilities, health conditions, or other complex barriers to employment. To date, the project has supported over 400 participants, with more than 60 individuals already securing employment through the program.

Additionally, the team coordinates industry-specific Skills Bootcamps. Following a successful program in Fork-Lift Truck Operations earlier this year, the council is preparing a new hospitality-focused bootcamp for late summer. This upcoming program will offer participants the chance to gain essential certifications in food hygiene and customer-facing roles, further bridging the gap between training and local employment opportunities.
