Croydon residents face a new stop for council help

Croydon residents who use housing needs or homelessness support will need to visit Cavendish House after the service moves from Bernard Weatherill House at the end of September 2026.

The relocation changes where support is delivered, not what is available. Croydon Council says opening hours will remain unchanged, while telephone, online and appointment-based access will continue. Same-day appointments will still be available for people who need urgent help.

Housing support moves first in late September

The Housing Needs and Homelessness Service will be the first team to relocate. The council has confirmed the move will take place from the end of September 2026, although it has not specified an exact moving day.

Cavendish House is around a 10-minute walk from Bernard Weatherill House. Residents seeking in-person housing or homelessness support should therefore check where their appointment will take place as the relocation approaches.

The council considered nine possible sites before selecting Cavendish House. It said the building offered the strongest combination of accessibility, safety, privacy and value for money.

More Croydon services will follow

Later phases are expected to bring several other frontline services into the same building:

  • Parking services
  • Youth justice
  • Young Croydon
  • Children’s services
  • Adult social care triage

No relocation dates have yet been confirmed for these teams. Until further details are published, residents should continue using their existing service locations and appointment instructions.

Bringing the teams together is intended to help people whose needs involve more than one council service. It will also allow Croydon Council to consolidate public-facing support while making greater use of Cavendish House.

Cavendish House will offer more private space

Visitors can expect a larger reception and waiting area, more rooms for confidential conversations and family-friendly spaces. The council also plans improved accessibility, security and visitor management.

These changes are designed to provide greater privacy for residents discussing housing, social care or family circumstances. Executive Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry said council support should be provided in an environment that is welcoming, accessible and organised around residents’ needs.

The next confirmed milestone is the Housing Needs and Homelessness Service relocation at the end of September 2026; schedules for the remaining services are still to be announced.
