Bucknell road closure set for retaining wall repairs

Drivers near Bucknell will face a full closure of the C6208 for almost three weeks in July while repairs are carried out to a collapsed retaining wall.

The road is due to close 24 hours a day from Monday 13 July to Friday 31 July 2026, between the A488 at New Invention and Lower Lye Junction. Shropshire Council says the closure is needed so the work can be done safely.

Traffic will follow a signed diversion

Shropshire Council has also published diversion information through the roadworks map service listed in its notice. Residents comparing similar highways disruption can also read this recent update on road repairs and local access arrangements.

Pedestrians and cyclists affected during the works

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will not be available through the works area while the repairs are under way. Property access will be maintained up to the closure points, meaning residents and visitors may still reach properties where access is possible from outside the closed section.

The council has asked road users to follow the signed diversion and on-site instructions during the closure.

Retaining wall will be rebuilt before the road is reinstated

The scheme covers removal of the collapsed retaining wall, construction of a new concrete footing, rebuilding of the wall, installation of parapet fencing, and reinstatement of the highway verge and carriageway.

The work will be delivered by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with WSP supervising on behalf of the council. The council said every effort would be made to minimise disruption during the closure.
