Bracknell students’ results bring fresh choices ahead

Young people across Bracknell Forest are receiving their A Level, T Level, BTEC and other Level 3 results, with the council reporting a high pass rate among 18-year-olds at local centres.

Ofqual data cited by Bracknell Forest Council shows that 97.5% of A Level grades awarded to 18-year-olds at centres in the area were passes, from A to E. The figures also show that 11.7% of grades were awarded at A, placing Bracknell Forest above both the South East and national figures for the top grade.

The results day update covers several Level 3 routes, rather than A Levels alone. For students and families, the immediate focus may now shift from the grade itself to the choice of university, an apprenticeship, further training, work or time to consider the available options.

The 97.5% figure applies specifically to A Level results awarded to 18-year-olds at centres in Bracknell Forest. A pass grade ranges from A to E, while the 11.7% A rate represents the highest grade awarded.

Bracknell Forest Council said the results reflected years of study, commitment and progress by individual young people. The authority also acknowledged the role of teachers, school and college staff, families and others who supported students during their courses.

Grainne Siggins, the council’s executive director for people, said reaching results day reflected “a huge amount of commitment and perseverance”. She said students should take time to recognise what they had achieved.

The council’s update does not suggest that one qualification route should be treated as the default next step. A Level results, T Level results and BTEC results can all lead to different decisions, depending on a student’s plans and circumstances.

University, apprenticeships and training routes

For some Bracknell Forest students, results will confirm a planned move into university or other higher education. Others may look at an apprenticeship, further education or training, employment, or the possibility of starting a business.

Those routes can also become more relevant when a result means an original plan has changed. Cllr Megan Wright, cabinet member for children, young people and health, said students should not feel they have to work out their next step alone.

She said results day can bring both celebration and uncertainty, particularly for young people whose plans need to change. The council stressed that there are different routes to a positive future and that one set of results does not define it.

Students weighing university, work or training can also see how other areas are setting out post-results routes for Oxfordshire students, although local advice should remain the starting point for Bracknell Forest learners.

Young people with questions about their results, or who need to reconsider their plans, are advised to speak to their school or college first. Staff can help students understand their options and consider the next practical step.

The council said students may take time to explore their options before deciding what is right for them. Its message to those disappointed by their grades was that local and national support remains available as they work out the route ahead.
