Stockport Council has confirmed that Cllr Mark Roberts will continue as Leader of the Council, with Cllr Jilly Julian remaining Deputy Leader for the new municipal year.
The appointments were confirmed as the council began its latest civic cycle, setting out the senior political team responsible for cabinet portfolios and committee leadership across the authority.
Roberts and Julian remain in senior posts
Cllr Roberts took over as council leader in 2025, replacing Cllr Mark Hunter. The council said he will continue in the role for the forthcoming year.
Cllr Julian will also stay on as Deputy Leader. In a short council video, both councillors welcomed the start of the new municipal year.
Cabinet members named for the year ahead
The cabinet will also include Cllr Dan Oliver, Cllr Grace Baynham, Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cllr Helen Foster-Grime, Cllr Micheala Meikle and Cllr Jake Austin.

Each cabinet member is assigned a portfolio covering areas of council work. These portfolios determine which services and policy areas individual cabinet members oversee during the municipal year.
The council meeting also approved appointments to committees, including chairs and vice-chairs. Committee appointments shape scrutiny, decision-making and oversight work across the authority.
Full appointments and political group leaders
Stockport Council said residents can view the full list of cabinet members, committee chairs and vice-chairs through the council’s published committee information.
The meeting also noted the political group leaders for the year: Liberal Democrat group leader Cllr Mark Roberts, Labour group leader Cllr Rachel Wise, Stockport Community Group leader Cllr Asa Caton, Green Party group leader Cllr Liz Crix, Independent Ratepayers group leader Cllr Anna Charles-Jones and Reform UK group leader Cllr Brian Battle.
