Nuneaton Remembrance Walk to Honour Road Traffic Victims
Warwickshire residents are invited to a remembrance walk at Hartshill Hayes Country Park, near Nuneaton, on Wednesday 5 August 2026. Running from 11:00 to 14:00, the free event is open to all ages and anyone affected by a road traffic collision. There is no need to book.
Organised by the Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership, the walk will begin and end at the county’s dedicated Road Traffic Victims Memorial. Why walkers are aiming for 308 miles
Participants are being asked to contribute towards a collective target of 308 miles. That total represents the 25 people killed and 283 people seriously injured in collisions on Warwickshire’s roads during 2025.
The mileage is a shared total rather than an individual requirement. Each circuit completed will contribute to the target, while visitors remain free to choose how far they walk. The route returns to the memorial, keeping the focus of the event on remembering those who died, recognising people who were seriously injured and acknowledging the wider impact of road trauma.
Cllr Stephen Shaw, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said the event offers an opportunity for people to remember lives lost or changed. He encouraged residents to participate by walking a mile, spending time at the memorial or supporting awareness of road safety.
What families can expect on the day
Representatives from Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are due to join the Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership at the event. Organisers also hope that emergency vehicles will be available for children and families to explore, although their presence has not been confirmed.
