Nottingham vision sets out plan for homes and growth

Nottingham City Council has launched the Nottingham City Vision 2050 in the city, setting out a long-term framework for neighbourhoods, regeneration, investment and Nottingham’s role as a destination for business, culture, sport and visitors.
The Vision was presented at two launch events at Nottingham Council House on Friday 5 June 2026, after first being shown nationally at UKREiiF in Leeds. It was co-created with residents, businesses and city partners, according to the council.
Three pillars for Nottingham’s long-term plan
The plan is built around three themes: Home, Heart and Host.
Home focuses on healthy and inclusive neighbourhoods where people can live and thrive. Heart sets out Nottingham’s ambition to be a leading city within a growing regional economy. Host positions the city as a place for business, culture, sport and visitors.

Those themes are supported by Ten Bold Ideas, which the council says are intended to guide investment, regeneration and inclusive growth across the city over the longer term.
Business, education and community partners involved
The city launch brought together representatives from business, education, the voluntary and community sector, local government and regional bodies.
Speakers included Cllr Neghat Khan, leader of Nottingham City Council; East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward; Sajeeda Rose, chief executive of Nottingham City Council; Vicky Evans of ARUP; Lilian Greenwood MP; Janet Smith of Nottingham College; and Liz Cartwright of Cartwright Communications.
Cllr Khan said the Vision was intended to move beyond a wish list and into “achievable and investable propositions”, with local partners asked to help shape delivery.

Regeneration role in the wider East Midlands
The launch also placed Nottingham’s plans within the wider East Midlands economy, including the Trent Arc and regional growth work.
Mayor Claire Ward said the Vision brought partners together around a shared ambition for Nottingham’s future and said regional support would focus on investment, regeneration and sustainable growth.
Businesses at the event also highlighted the role of universities, innovation districts and the city’s ability to retain skilled graduates.
The next stage is expected to focus on how organisations support delivery, with discussions at the launch centred on collaboration, practical next steps and future investment priorities.
