Make a Mark opens Friday 23 October in the community corner of the Made in Birmingham gallery at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square, Birmingham B3 3DH. The free exhibition features work by neurodivergent artists aged 16 to 24 who study at Pinc College. Visitors can drop by to see it through 31 December 2026.

The display brings together a year of ideas and creative work. For visitors, it offers a chance to see what students have made while developing their interests and skills in gallery and museum settings. For the young artists, putting work on view at the museum marks a public milestone.

A year of work, and a milestone for its artists

Pinc College is a specialist college for neurodivergent students aged 16 to 24. Its students work towards Level 2 and Level 3 University of the Arts London diplomas, developing their creative skills through hands-on learning in cultural spaces. The college has campuses at Aston Hall and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, and places its creative campuses in galleries, museums and other cultural locations across England and Wales.

One student said they had once thought of their artwork as “just a fun hobby” and never imagined it would be shown in a place like the museum. Another described the effort behind the display and the feeling of seeing the finished work: “I’ve done it and it looks cool.” Their comments give visitors a glimpse of the achievement behind the finished exhibition, as well as the pieces on display.

Vicky Rollins, assistant head of programmes at Pinc College, said exhibitions such as this celebrate students’ growth along the way. She said developing creative skills can also help students build confidence, become more independent with travel, make friends and feel more comfortable sharing ideas. These are milestones alongside the qualifications they achieve.
