Free BSL sessions in Paisley begin this September

Two free British Sign Language community sessions will begin at The Kiln Creative Learning Hub, 8 Seedhill Road, Paisley, PA1 1JT, on Wednesday 2 September 2026. The programme is aimed at Deaf people, BSL learners and families, with no previous experience or booking required for the Sign Club & Café. The separate creative workshop is for people aged 18 and over and must be booked because places are limited.

According to Renfrewshire Council’s event notice, West of Scotland BSL is launching both activities with council support. They will run on six selected Wednesday evenings between September 2026 and February 2027.

Drop in to sign, connect and learn

The BSL Sign Club & Café is a social space where people can use BSL, meet others and learn about BSL and Deaf culture. It is open to Deaf people, current BSL learners, families and anyone curious about the language or Deaf culture.

No experience is needed, and visitors do not have to reserve a place. The café runs from 6pm to 9pm on each listed date and can be attended independently of the workshop programme.

Six creative workshops lead to a live performance

The BSL Storytelling and Poetry Workshop is a six-session programme led by Graham Dow, a profoundly Deaf BSL tutor. Participants will develop creative work across the scheduled sessions, building towards a live BSL performance on Wednesday 3 March 2027.

The workshop runs from 6pm to 7pm and is open to anyone aged 18 or over. Unlike the club and café, advance booking is required because capacity is limited. The council notice does not state how to book, so prospective participants should use the source page to check for further instructions before attending.

Practical details to check before travelling

Attendance at both activities is free. The published notice gives no transport guidance or specific accessibility arrangements, and it does not provide a time for the live performance on 3 March. Anyone who needs those details should confirm them through Renfrewshire Council’s event page; only the Sign Club & Café can be attended without booking.
