Bridgend clubs can seek grants to widen access to sport

Sports clubs and community organisations in Bridgend County Borough can apply for grants of up to £1,000 through the new Support for Sport Fund. Applications are limited to one per organisation in each financial year, and awards depend on funding remaining available.

Who can apply and what the grant supports

The fund is open to constituted sports clubs, eligible clubs affiliated to a National Governing Body, community groups and voluntary organisations operating in Bridgend County Borough. It aims to increase participation, improve opportunities for under-represented groups and help build healthier, more connected communities.

Eligible projects can use funding for equipment, taster sessions, volunteer, coach or official training, disability inclusion equipment, community sport events, venue hire for new activities, promotional materials or start-up costs for a new community sport project.

Brackla courts upgraded for school and community use

Alongside the grant launch, Bridgend County Borough Council and Sport Wales have invested in outdoor facilities at Brackla Sports Centre, based at Archbishop McGrath Catholic School. Two hard courts have been replaced by one all-weather, multi-use playing surface, with energy-efficient LED floodlighting for evening activities.

The improved courts are intended to support school sport and extracurricular activities, as well as local clubs and community groups. The facilities can also accommodate a broader range of sports, holiday programmes and activities beyond the school day.

How to find application details

Organisations can check the full eligibility criteria and application information on the council’s Support for Sport Fund page. The council says one application is permitted per financial year, subject to funds remaining available.
